Virtual Pet Adoptions Requirements & Recommendations
Virtual Pet Adoptions is a web site sponsored by Pet Food Express and the East Bay SPCA. The East Bay SPCA and Pet Food Express have partnered to create Virtual Pet Adoptions as part of Goal 2007’s life-saving mission to find loving homes for every adoptable animal in our community.
While the East Bay SPCA is a non-profit organization, and Pet Food Express operates a chain of retail stores throughout the community, both organizations are committed to creating better worlds for both people and their pets. Part of our goal is enable every shelter in the Bay Area be part of Virtual Pet Adoptions.
Here’s how Virtual Pet Adoptions works:
On Virtual Pet Adoptions every participating shelter and rescue organization gets a place to put up animal pictures and bios, event information and contact information for their shelter. Visitors to the site can view animals in the data base by type, size, age and activity level and for specific shelters or from all the shelters at once. We’ve participated in over 44,200 adoptions through our site and with your help we can go much, much further towards creating happy endings for animals in need of families.
We will send over information to whoever will be responsible at your organization for the picture taking, sizing and uploading of information to site. Basically a computer with internet access is all one needs to get up and running. The database/site updating application is all Web based so it can be done from anywhere that has internet access.
Criteria for new rescue group admission
Must be an active greater San Francisco Bay Area group with a history of working well in the community.

5. Have a Facility for Viewing Animals.

5. Present a Foster Contract or Foster Guidelines
6. Have a Process for Viewing Animals
7. Spay/Neuters All Animals Before Going Home.
Responsibilities for Users
The animals that are on Virtual Pet Adoptions must be up-to-date at all times. This means as soon as an animal is adopted or transferred to another location, it should be taken off the site.
Pets must be available to be viewed in a public location sometime during the week or weekend (such as at Pet Food Express—but it can be at any mobile adoption location). This can be listed on the site under events.
A number or email to inquire about the animal and to arrange to make an appointment for viewing F2S (face to snout).
We ask that you put a link on your organization’s Web site to Virtual Pet Adoptions as we will link to yours too. There is a page on the site with a banner link that you can use if you wish.
Pet Food express will give your shelter/rescue New Adoption Coupons to give out to the adopting families when they get their new pet. The coupons are good for 20% off that important going home supply run – food, collar, feeding dish, brush, toy, etc… When the coupons are used at one of our stores, Pet Food Express will give back to the shelter/rescue, $10 per coupon.
